Cylinder Magnetic Float for low Fluid Densities
This construction is a cylinder magnetic float, which we built as part of a prototype development. For a bypass level measurement (with magnetic valve), a float was required, which had to be able to float in fluids with particularly low densities and endure a certain pressure range.
As part of the development with particularly thin titanium sheeting (0.3 mm), the cylinder float was also equipped with pleats. This float achieved a value, meaning it can float in fluid densities from 0.6 g/cm3, incl. a magnet weight of approx. 90 g (as a second example, this float would still float in a fluid density of 0.45 with a magnet weight of 40 g).
Unfortunately, this float failed the inspection for the necessary pressure. After a pressure test (bursting test), the float caved in at 17 bar. Reckoning on a 1.5-fold test pressure, this float would be suitable for a max. operating pressure of up to 10 bar.
The special details about this float:
- High volume
- Very low densities
